If you’re a serious snapper then you can pay more of course – but it’s a matter of choice.
There are no reels of film to fumble about with, or to leave undeveloped in a drawer. Apart from the fact that there are no processing costs, results are instantaneous. You don’t need to worry whether a photo will come out right or not – and then have to wait for your film to be processed to see if it’s good, bad or indifferent.
And you can be as snap happy as you like. Once you’ve chosen your camera, there’s very little running costs. Take as many photos as you wish. Keep the ones you like and hit the delete button for the ones that you don’t. As a matter of fact, memory is so cheap these days that you could even keep the ones that you don’t like – just in case you change your mind.
As for your favorites, you have plenty of choices. You can print out a traditional photograph if you wish. Most processing labs will let you insert your memory stick or card and print the photos out right there and then. Or you could use a photo quality printer and do it yourself. These are very cheap these days, although you do have to replenish them with both ink and paper.
Obviously you could display your photos on a computer monitor if you wished – and digital photo frames are, like digital cameras, very cheap and affordable these days. you can set them up to run a slideshow of hundreds of photos if you wish.
Digital cameras and digital photo frames really are a marriage made in heaven for the amateur photographer. In general, digital photography should be a liberating and enjoyable experience – so go ahead and experiment a little.
